Shocked by a recent Trussell Trust report predicting that 670,000 more people will be destitute by Christmas 2020, the Head Students of Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys were inspired to arrange a collection for Nourish Foodbank in Tunbridge Wells.
Year 13 students Charlie, Abby, Minhaj and Ben then set about the task of inspiring the school community to donate items for the collection. Each year group was asked to bring in certain items from the Nourish ‘Christmas Wishlist’ or ‘Basic Staples’ and the donations began to accumulate by the Christmas tree in the school hall. Over a week we saw the generosity of parents and staff creating a rather large pile which completely surpassed our expectations.
Head Boy, Charlie said “Nourish Foodbank is working in conjunction with Tunbridge Wells Borough Council’s COVID Response Team to make sure that no one in crisis goes without food during this difficult time and we wanted to co-ordinate a whole school collection at TWGSB to help.” and Head Girl Abby reported “The response from parents, students and staff has been amazing and we have received a huge number of donations which will make such a difference to those families in need this festive season.”
On receipt of the boxes, Nourish reported "THANK YOU. This is incredible!"
